The only thing I'll add to this, in reference to the Acadians, is that we
should remember Canadians, with no objections from Quebec or the Acadians,
did much the same to the Japanese during WWll. In addition, these people
were never given the same opportunity to swear allegiance to the crown.
Such events should not have to happen but any country or anybody will take
any action necessary to survive. In both cases , Canada's survival was in
doubt to those alive at the time.
In more recent times, we saw what a Quebecker, by the name of Trudeau did
during the (minor) FLQ crisis. We're seeing what the Americans will do when
faced with an attack on its people. We're seeing what the Israelis will do
and we will react much the same if faced with similar crisis...and you'd
better believe it. This was and continues to be mankind's history.
Survival is a basic instinct of man, millions of years in the making,
because, without it, many of us would not be here today.

Len McLaughlin elucidated:
"This was and continues to be mankind's history.

because, without it, many of us would not be here today."

Deep man! I mean profound. But one little detail. How do you square
'millions of years' with your man Stockwells six thousand year old universe?
But heavy just the same. Just think I owe my being here to a million
year old survival instinct, Wow.
You and Lambourn make quite a team : dumb ass and dumb as.

Once the menace of a Japanese invasion (fantastic at best) eased, there was
no need to keep the Japanese in camps. The US saw this and allowed
thousands to serve their country. Canada's corporate rulers kept them down
to profit from their misery by selling their property. They are exploiters
of the worst kind.

There is one huge difference between the FLQ "crisis" and the current US and
Israeli policies on terrorism: the FLQ were not terrorists.

They were criminals - kidnappers, bombers, theives perhaps - but not
terrorists. Trudeau, acting on corporate orders to restore corporate rule
in Quebec, suspended human rights to deal with this 'threat'. He deserved
imprisonment for crimes against the people and exceeding his authority.

Some day, some how, the corporate government will be destroyed and human
rights and dignity will be revived from a long absence. This proves that
the powerful must be kept in check at all times.

Ah, nepotism ! He is Don Boudria's son, I am sure he is making at least $80K
per year for 'working' for Copps. Does Copps have any kids 'working' for Don
Boudria ?

This is confirmation that military intelligence was just as shaky then as
now. But, try to put yourself in their position at the time; we were at
war on both sides of the ocean by enemies that seemed unbeatable.....and
this is just after Chamberlain pronounced that Hitler posed no threat.
Ethnic profiling is not new and not without some justification. All Germans,
as well as the Japanese were under suspicion and many Germans spent the war
years in jail. No trials here either by we who are so quick to criticize
the US.

The military in both Canada and the US were at low points, so, if the
country's survival is at stake, do you err on the side of caution or do you,
like Chamberlain brush it off until it may be too late. Faulty
intelligence caused Trudeau to overreact too, just as it may have with Bush
and Blair. We have to be realistic about these things. --

How can this be? We Canadians, who are so pure of heart that we're always
criticizing others, would never do such a thing.
But, yes, you're right, there was absolutely no security nor moral need for
selling their property or at least not compensating them for same. However,
that was my point. There were no cries of outrage from the Francophone
community who are now so indignant in regards the treatment of the Acadians. --

--
Can't agree here. How can a bomber not be a terrorist? How can people
claiming political motives and who murder, be simply criminals? How can
those that issue political manifestos
be simply criminals? How many common criminals are there that blow up mail
boxes to send a political message and kill in the process? --

--
When our back is against the wall, we'll do the same again, or worst,
regardless of the party in power. Politics, like baseball, are spectator
sports for the masses. It keeps their little minds occupied arguing whose
team is the best...while the real powers-to-be carry on with their agendas.

Comparing Trudeau's crime against humanity with the need to remove Saddam
Hussein is silly at best. Saddam had to be taken down, but Quebec did not.

Acadians.

Some can be quite narrow in their interpretations.

Some believe those who loot McDonald's restaurants or burn cars in the
streets to be legitimate protest - others as common criminals.

The FLQ pretended to be terrorists to generate popular support - like Che
Guevara. Trudeau believed them despite the evidence to the contrary and
used to opportunity to crush Quebec and restore Ontario corporate rule.

Martin Niemoeller said it best:

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up
because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't
speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and
I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the
Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came
for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Unless Ontario's corporate rule is destroyed no one is safe. There is no
excuse for the denial of human rights on such flimsy proof. Trudeau was a
criminal for doing it and sadly he died in bed instead of in prison. He
should also have been thrown in jail for the National Energy Policy.
