I think you'll need a category A licence...?? BB's would fall in the
same
category as paintball and airgun?

Bit stupid, aint it?

BB guns that replicate any real model of firearm are illegal. Otherwise you
need a licence corresponding to the type of firearm it is...i.e. Air Pistol,
Air Rifle

To own replica firearms in NSW under the prohibition act 1998 you must apply
for a permit.

Read a copy of the act here:
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/wpa1998231/index.html

Also read above..."Replica Firearms - Why the Ban?"

I am currently applying for a prohibited wepons permit for imitation
firearms for the genuine reason of collection. The system is such a joke I
will probably denied.

My biggest concern is if I get the permit if it has storage restrictionslike
a regular collectors' licence I'm stuffed. I rent so I can't start
boltingthings to the floor, placing security bars on windows, re-enforcing
doors with steel, and placing bolts on my doors and windows.

Firearms ownership is only for the wealthy in this country.

You do need a Category A License.

I found this out when I was looking at Airsoft a while ago.

I hope this Clears things Up

You are wrong. I have been researching this for ages. You need a category A
if you have totally unique looking long rifle. If you have a replica (e.g.
of a PSG1) its illegal. If you have a pistol, you need a category H. If you
have a BB shotgun you need a category B.

Not to mention, all airsoft arms must have a unique serial number and pass
safety testing.

I have even discussed this with a firearms solicitor (Terry Shulze). I am
preparing now to start a society for collectors or potential colelctors of
replica firearms.

MY friend you and I are in the same boat. To collect modern pistols you need
to be a member of a collectors' society and have your licence endorsed by
them. You also need to meet expensive storage requirements. Not to mention,
you have to register them which means getting your fingerprints taken.

The only way to collect replica firearms is to get prohibited weapons permit
for imitation firearms. Under the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998 you can get
such a licence for the purpose of weapons collection. I'm assuming you will
have to be a member of a collectors' society also but I don't know for sure
as I only asked them to send me an application last week.

My understanding is that the storage requirements are less extreme also. I
rent so there is no way I canown a firearm in this country pretty much,
unless I store it at a central armoury which would defeat the purpose of
weapons collection.
