Kofi Anan To Africans--Your Sorry Plight Today Is Your Own Fault
tribalism.
Uhm, all of us developed under tribalism. So that's really not
relevent.
What might be relevent is complaining about the political borders
which were drawn in Africa by the West without regard to tribes
or nations which were split and combined within them. Yet if
that's the problem, why aren't those borders changed now? Why has
the UN decreed all political borders in Africa inviolate and unchangeable?
What socio political structure? They're all dictatorships, one
and all, and mostly run by members of one tribe within a given
nation. The problem in Africa is not difficulty adapting to
socio-political structures; it's theft, corruption, and
brutality.
Would it also be "racist" to
No, but it would be untrue in this context. There are a number of
Western nations which have multiple "tribes" or nations within,
all living peacefully, if not perfectly, together.
Personally, I'd like to see Africa reconolonized and run by the
West until sufficient locals could be educated in good
universities, then trained and work their way up the local
governmental ladders. Start them out running local affairs, then
state or provincial, then give them more and more power at the
national level. It'd be expensive, but without it, with the West
just doing the same as we've been doing for fifty years, I see no
likelihood of change in Africa over the coming century. The
alternative to that is to just abandon the continent entirely,
stop sending any aid at all, and let things boil over in a
cauldron of bankruptcy and starvation in the hopes that whatever
new governments emerge would be more inclined to help their
people rather than themselves.
