Roger Ebert - Two ****** Down
Q: What do you make of the criticism of Hollywood celebrities
for speaking out against the war--the Sean Penns, the Susan
Sarandons?
Ebert: It's just ignorant; it's just ignorant.
Q: Why do you say that?
Ebert: I begin to feel like I was in the last generation of
Americans who took a civics class. I begin to feel like most
Americans don't understand the First Amendment, don't understand
the idea of freedom of speech, and don't understand that it's
the responsibility of the citizen to speak out.
----------
Isn't this elitism typical? Ebert overlooks that the people
also have a right to REACT to those who speak out, too. The
dummy goes on to say that when his political column is
criticized by liberals, they send in "long, logical emails" but
that the right-wingers mostly just tell him to shut up. Not
surprisingly, he also defends another four-eyes fatboy, Michael
Moore, by saying that Moore's message at the Academy Awards was
OK, but that his delivery was bad.
In fact everything was bad: Moore's message, Moore's delivery,
Moore's breath, the noxious fumes from Moore's underarms - you
name it, it was bad.
