Default T Martin case, If we had the three strikes........

BTW if the UK had the three strikers and your out laws like the US of A.
Fred Barras and Brendon Fearon would have both being serving life without
parole for previous offences, then they could not have gotten themselves
shot by Tony Martin. But of course the do gooders would then be up in arms
because two young men (one with thirty or more convictions and the other
with 18 convictions) should not be locked up for life.

well, there's the other more pragmatic issue which many states of the US are
now experiencing to a degree.. they just can't afford to keep their prison
populations at the level they're at.

But there is the moral implications as well. Surely investing that money in
a workable re-hab program would make far more sense from everyone's
perspective, than life-long incarceration, which amounts to little more than
society's admition of utter failure

They can always buy some rope.

It's inexpensive, re-usable and no special skills required to use it, I'd
argue an idea solution to the problem of prison overcrowding.

than

eliments in society thtree chances to go straight, that is enough chance for
all reasonable people, and locking em up for life after the third strike iif
it had been applied to Barras and Fearon would mean they would not have got
shot and society would have had over 50 less offences commited against it.

Rehabilitation has a very low success rate.

Cunning criminals are very good at playing the system to pretend
that they have reformed - whilst at the other end of the scale it is
an excuse to deploy brain washing against innocent victims of a
rotten legal system. To say nothing of providing employment to
a lot of Blair's nutter cronies who should be on the dole or in
jail themselves.

LOL... been taking lessons from Qusay Hussein?

According to newspaper reports, he executed about 2,500 prisoners in one day due to "overcrowding"...

Life imprisonment is a bit extreme for 5 burglaries don't you think?
It would have the effect of cutting burglaries of course, but it would cause
problems for an already-overstretched prison-service, and also deprives the
perp of the chance to rehabilitate.
I would favour a steeply-rising penalty-scheme. Maybe if prison sentences
doubled for each repeat offence?
