Default Test drive: Hydrogen-powered concept car

If you have any influence regarding feedback to General Motors,
please tell them to redirect their research to a synthetic fuel that
is a liquid at normal temperatures and pressures (e.g. methanol,
ethanol, etc.)

Hydrogen is extremely expensive to manufacture (especially as it will
eventually have to come from electrolysis of water), has intractible
storage and distribution problems, and limited energy potential (e.g.
mileage) per unit of storage volume.

A synthetic liquid fuel avoids most of these problems. It is still
significantly more expensive than ordinary gasoline, but it would be
far better than the proposed hydrogen/"fool cell" fiasco.

If you use biomass as the input for your liquid synthetic fuel, it
will take much less total energy to manufacture a useful product.
Also if renewable or even nuclear power is used to produce the
necessary energy input, you will have a closed cycle that does not
increase atmospheric CO2. The result is still far more expensive than
current gasoline, but at least it is feasible.

There's more than one way to skin this cat.
Sadly the Bush,Jr government only knows oine way: OIL

Hydrogen can be stored as a metal hydride using low pressures.

see: http://www.hydrogenus.com/advocate/ad73gat.asp

"...The project objective was to offer the small industrial vehicle sector
an alternative to limited-range, battery-electric vehicles. To ensure the
utmost safety for indoor applications, HyTech was asked to develop a
low-pressure hydrogen storage system for these vehicles.

The project team was able to develop and demonstrate the GATORT vehicles
running on hydrogen stored in the form of metal hydride powder, an
inherently safe and efficient solution. The vehicles demonstrated a 50
percent improvement in fuel-to-wheel efficiency when compared to similar
internal combustion engine vehicles and 100 percent improvement in range
when compared to battery-electric vehicles. During the course of the vehicle
development the HyTech team was able to reduce the weight of the hydrogen
storage system by 15 percent and lower its material costs by over 50
percent.

The GATORT was exhibited at the Utah 2001 Industry Showcase of Technologies
in August and at the World Hydrogen Energy Conference held 9-14 June 2002 in
Montreal, Québec, Canada. At both events, conference participants had the
opportunity to drive the hydrogen powered GATORT vehicle to experience the
technology of the future for themselves. ..."

- I have only limited influence on general motors but i will do my best to
encourage safe and economical manufacturing facilities . we will work
towards the nuclear car or train is it becomes feasible
