Thou shall not imagine GWB's empty head on a stick
This really disturbs me. I don't like what I'm seeing here.
When 18th century artist Francisco de Goya, court painter to the royal
family of Spain, made a series of horrific sketches depicting the horrors of
the Napoleonic wars - the famous "Desastre de la Guerra" ("Disasters of
War") series - it was hailed as the work of a genius. The Desastre series
still stands apart as a body of raw, powerfully dark and utterly moving
work. You can't view the sketches without being affected. This one is
particularly graphic and shocking:

When students in the US make horrific depictions of warmongers - directly
responsible for the violent and senseless deaths of thousands of people
based upon a series of lies and deceptions - we call in the Feds, the kid
gets "disciplined" (warned and threatened) and probably gets to spend
several sessions with a shrink and might even get a prescription for Zoloft
for good measure. This is such a typical bullshit American overreaction.
This is a clear violation of First Amendment protection if I've ever seen
it. If the kid starts threatening people, fine, discipline him. Until then,
leave him/her alone.
What happened to art as a form of pure expression? Are the Orwellian
thought police now restricting what we can paint or draw? When do we start
calling the US a police state?
