Or a Siskiyou snow storm. Claudette is a pretty wimpy hurricane, but
remember all the damage Tropical Storm Allison did?

Actually, one of the most expensive storms ever (possibly the most
expensive per capita) in the US went unnoticed. It was a hailstorm in
Bismark, ND two summers ago.

I believe it. Back nearly ten years ago, we got a 14 foot snowfall.
Shut the town down for three days, and some areas didn't get power
back for two weeks (power lines were on poles, but the poles were
buried). The last thing I saw on the weather channel just before the
lights went out and we were using the dogs to dig a tunnel from our
front door to the surface was them talking incessently about a six
inch snowfall in New York City. We weren't mentioned, and our local
forecast was for "scattered showers."
