From The Washington Post, 7/25/03:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A42884-2003Jul24.html WMD May as Well Be a Four-Letter Word By Al Kamen Friday, July 25, 2003; Page A23 The administration has been moving quickly to quash the brouhaha over the president's use of questionable allegations about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction in the State of the Union address in January. Senior officials keep taking responsibility, while White House folks say it was a minor matter and work hard to move on. President Bush, as he did so successfully with the also-at-large Osama bin Laden, doesn't mention WMD anymore. "A reliable staple of past addresses, the four words did not cross his lips during two public appearances in Pennsylvania and Michigan on "Nor did Bush use the phrase on Wednesday in a formal update on the progress U.S. forces have made in Iraq that he delivered from the White House Rose Garden." But it would be a shame historically to let the whole flap disappear without at least giving it a name, a shorthand phrase, anything but a " -- gate" of some sort, so it can be referred to easily in the future. Loop Fans can help! Yes, it's the Loop Name That Flap Contest. Simply think of a catchy name to call Bush's current problem, scandal or whatever, and submit it via e-mail to intheloop@washpost.com or mail to: In the Loop, The Washington Post, 1150 15th St. NW., Washington, D.C. 20071. Don't forget to include your name, occupation, address and day and evening telephone numbers. Entries from Hill folks or administration officials may be submitted on background. The top 10 winners will receive one of those coveted In the Loop T-shirts. Deadline is Monday, Aug. 4. __________________________________________________ ____ Get it in. Not much time. Harry |
