Default Slow moderation cycle

I've noticed over the years that this newsgroup has a very long
latency between articles, typically several weeks. Compare this to,
say, comp.lang.c++.moderated, which has a high volume, the good S/N
ratio typical of moderated groups (including this one), and relatively
short latency.

I wonder if anything can be done to improve this. Perhaps having
multiple moderators would help.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have the time to help out (perhaps
everybody else is in the same situation), so feel free to mock me
mercilessly for criticizing without offering to be part of the
solution.

[side note: possibly multiple moderators would help; I haven't had very
much time lately. -mod]

comp.lang.c.moderated - moderation address: clcm@plethora.net -- you must
have an appropriate newsgroups line in your header for your mail to be seen,
or the newsgroup name in square brackets in the subject line. Sorry.

How are messages moderated here anyways? I'm actually wondering because I
really have no idea what software is needed, what procedures must be
followed. Depending on the efforts needed I would even volunteer to help
out.
