Default Slow flash memory on FreeBSD 4.9

Hi All.

I got flash memory card (MicroAdvantage QuickiDrive - it's really micro
advantage in my case), and trying to use it on FreeBSD 4.9. Everything is
fine except speed.
I mount it by command
mount -t msdos /dev/da0s1 /flash
and it works - I see everything on it, can copy from/to, remove files.
But speed is terrible - midnight commander shows 200-500 KB/s in copy dialog,
and average is about 300 KB/s (I copied 20M files to and from it). dmesg
says "da0: 650KB/s transfers" which is also very slow, but I don't get even
that.

Can it be faster on FreeBSD 4.9? How does FreeBSD 5.x? Or maybe there are
some flash models which are well (or at least much better) supported by
FreeBSD?

Thank you,
Yevgen Muntyan

P.S. dmesg output

umass0: USB Flash Disk , rev 2.00/2.00, addr 2
da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
da0: <MicroAdv QuickiDrive128M 2.00> Removable Direct Access SCSI-2 device
da0: 650KB/s transfers
da0: 125MB (256000 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 125C)
