Aptiva 2153-E2U AMD K6-2 533mhz/AFX CPU Upgrade
Hi. I have a Aptiva 2153-E2U with 256MB pc100 RAM 128x2, on IBM's OEM
version of the Acer v70ma-95 motherboard with BIOS dated, v3.2 V70EN5H
10/10/98. The original processor was a AMD K6-2 333Mhz at 95x3.5 at
2.2v.
I recently accquired a AMD K6-2 533Mhz/AFX with a good 600Mhz rated
heatsink/fan and have switched processors. I have managed to get it to
run at 476Mhz {I left the CORE voltage at 2.2v(SW2 B4-B8), changed the
multiplier from 3.5 to 5.0(SW2 B1-B3), and increased the FSB from 95 to
100(SW3 B2-B3). Also I am currenty running under Windows XP.
These are the settings I am using now as I mentioned above; according
to the "IBM System board Layout" print out:
__________________________________________________ ___________
BUS Freq | Multiplier | Voltage | M1542 BUS Freq |
CPU,AGP,PCI | | | |
| | | |
SW1 B2 B3 B4| SW2 B1 B2 B3| B4 B5 B6 B7 B8| SW3 B2 B3 |
F F F | F N N| F F F N F | N N |
| | | |
__________________________________________________ ___________|
F=Off N=On |
__________________________________________________ ___________|
I have tried a 5.5 multiplier also but the computer only ran for a
while, and if I didn't get a error with explorer then it rebooted on
it's own, and continued rebooting once the IBM Logo vanished.
I not really sure about SW1 I tried setting that to
{(N F F)CPU-100, AGP-66, PCI-33} also with 5.5 and 5.0 but it kept on
freezing or rebooting once the IBM logo vanished.
Also I googled my BIOS and found out that there is a newer version
V70EN5H dated 10/22/98, and since the IBM website no longer supports
older systems I hoping someone has a copy of it.
Thanks.
