Default ATAPI drive not detected while alone on the second IDE controller

Hi,

I have got a strange problem with my fresh installed netbsd box.
I've got a K7S41 mini-ATX mainboard full of Sis controller.
I plugged the hard drive alone on the first IDE controller, in master
mode.
I plugged the DVD-RW drive alone on the second IDE controller, in
master mode too.

The DVD-RW is never detected on the pciide? bus.
I tried to put it in cable select mode but with no success.

I plugged it in slave mode on the same IDE controller as the hard
drive, then everything works, means, it is detected and I can use it.

Isn't it possible to have a hard disk on the first controller and an
ATAPI drive on the second one with NetBSD ?

thx in advance for your answers.

In article <e3767a2e.0409191139.40dc57b6@posting.google.com>,
tbcode@yahoo.com (case) writes:

Is it on a cable select cable? The cable that comes with the drive
usually isn't. It should have worked in master mode, regardless.

Is the second controller enabled in the CMOS? detected? Post the
output of some command such as "dmesg | egrep 'ata|cd|ide[01]'" to
display the relevant information.

In general, yes, but a few CD-ROM drives won't work as masters on
any OS. You wouldn't expect that to be a problem with a new DVD-RW.
What make and model of drive is it?

I just tried in cable select. But the DVD-RW is definitly on the
second IDE controller, alone and in master mode.

I confirm that the second controller is enable in the
CMOS/BIOS/whatever. I can even boot from it.

here comes what dmesg tells me:
