Default PS Elements question about resolution and opening files

I use Elements 1, but I think Diane has a misapprehension here. The
print size is determined by the instructions sent to the printer, while
the 72dpi is merely a resolution chosen by Photoshop to show the picture
on the screen. It's a convenient compromise.

If I go to Image | Size | I can change the size, but as long as I don't
have 'resample' ticked, all it does is show a different area on the
screen, just as changing view does. So far I can see no way in which
changing the 72dpi affects the saved image.

(Look at 'auto' on the resize menu and you'll find a lower resolution,
and a higher one of 266 dpi.)

Just tell to printer to print at 5 x 7 and you should be OK.

Thanks Michael,

Thanks for pointing out my misunderstanding. I did assume that Elements was
converting the image to 72 dpi and was trying to fight against that.

Thanks again. I'll just get these family vacation pics printed, say goodbye
to my relatives and get back home to my familiar computer and PhotoShop 7.

Diane
