2176-C6D and Linux
Well, I have had linux on an aptiva with Pll 233. My son had a mail
server running on it. It was running all day and night. A quite power
saving and silent setup.
My experience with linux is that if one installs a full graphical
version of linux, the OS will require just a little more ram than
windows 98. So it should be possible for you. But don't expect more
speed than with win98.
People who claims that linux can run on a 486 computer are thinking of
text based linux with no graphics. This is specific for a linux server
per example. Linux is very well suited for servers.
I have also tried knoppix on a compaq 300 MHz. This was a bootable CD
with complete linux and windows xp emulation. I used it for ntfs
harddisk admittance on a damaged win2k partition.
best regards
John
