A VTI/Access Method for ODBC?

Has anyone worked on developing a VTI/External Data Access Method for
linking to other ODBC data sources?

The Informix Enterprise Gateway Manager fills this need in roughly the
same way. It causes ODBC-sourced tables to look as though they are
inside Informix, much like VTI does. The end result is nearly the same
but the method of doing it is different (since it works for version 7
engines as well as version 9).

Yep, unfortunately EGM is not available for Linux. This seemed like
such an obvious use for VTI I just hoped someone had worked on it; I
find very little information out-n-about concerning actual uses of VTI.
