Default Enhanced PLAY.CMD with play list support

Hi folks. I've been doing some REXX hacking lately and made some
modifications to the standard PLAY.CMD script that IBM ships with MMOS/2.

After installing Timidity_MCD, I found that playing too many files with
the current PLAY.CMD script resulted in losing my sound on the system
and hanging the script. It turns out that the current version of PLAY
doesn't free up all of its resources in all cases. I believe I've fixed
this problem, in addition to adding other capabilities.

My version of PLAY supports a play list (file containing a list of media
clips to play), and is capable of randomizing them. It can be
interrupted cleanly with CTRL-Break and can even recover the audio
device in some cases from an errant REXX script if something goes wrong.

I figured I'd put it out there in case anyone else found it useful. You
can grab it here:

Looks good from here.

If I could make a wish, I'd wish that it didn't require the "FILE="
parameter. For some reason, I want to invoke it as "play foo.wav".

Not without some extreme modifications. That type of stuff is better
handled in compiled code anyway.

PM123 and z! both handle streamed audio. PM123 is a GUI app,
and z! is CLI.
z! is available at: <http://dink.org/z/>

PM123 is on Hobbes:

(It also comes as a .exe or as a .wpi...take your choice)

I guess it's better than nothing, but these apps only play
mp3 streams. We need something that will play real audio
and/or wmp streams, which is what the majority of webcasts
use.

On Saturday, in article <LSfjd.48817$G15.44727@fed1read03>

Do either of these handle the "files" that the BBC playout (both
real-time, and "another chance to hear")?

They mostly seem to be realplayer (.ram) files. I, personally, have
never felt the need for such, but I understand that realplayer (8) runs
under odin, although the installation is a bit tricky...you could
probably get more information at the odinusers group on Yahoo:
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odinusers/?yguid=176010031>, or
on one of the forums at NetLabs.

There also seem to be some .wma files in there which, according to the
docs, warpvision might be expected to handle. To quote the warpvision docs:
"audio codecs support (pcm, mp3, ac3, wma1, wma2, ms adpcm, mp4)".

Again, not my cup of tea...all I use streaming audio for is a bit of
background music, and shoutcast is fine for that.
