Default How do i set up modems in Minix?

Well, it depends on what modem you have. To use it under minix, you
should have a standard modem eg. it should have UART (serial port chip)
nad accept Hayes AT commands. If it's an ISA modem it should work with
no problems (just determine IO port number and IRQ). If it's one of
those "softmodems", there's no chance of getting it to work unless
you're going to write your own drivers (

I'm having the same problem with minix-vmd 1.7.0. Don't know how to
configure the modem. I have an ISA modem (real modem, not softmodem)
which is attached to COM2 (i think it's 2f8h, am i right?). But
minix-vmd's chat appears to support only interactive login, not PAP or
CHAP. My ISP uses PAP, so is there still any chance of getting the
connection work?

PD: I've used that modem on another computer with Linux, using no
drivers (except the serial port driver, which is obvious) and worked OK.

You need a newer version of PPP. The one in in Minix-vmd current
supports PAP, CHAP and MS-CHAP.

Alternatively, you can try Claudio Tantignone's ppp implementation.

Hi,
you can try with kermit connecting to /dev/tty00 and tty01 for COM1
and COM2 ports. Remember that initial speed is 9600 and when you
disconnect from port (you stop using kermit) the port returns to 9600
baud.

Also remember to check the /usr/include/minix/config.h file to know if
you enable the serial ports, and recompile kernel. I do not remember
if them are enabled by default.

For using PAP you can use the ppp driver at
http://www.geocities.com/ctantignone/ppp.htm and compile it with PAP support.

Regards,
Claudio.

Is there any way to probe for devices and their IRQ's in minix? I'm
just running a Toshiba 1600 laptop (with a 286 CPU)
Thanks,
Isaac
