Default Nero software does not work with my aptiva

Hello All.

I purchased a Buslink CD burner with packaged software from Nero,
version 5.5.9.2. Replacement went w/o a hitch, plays cd's well. But,
I cannot get the software to burn cd's. I get the error message "this
medium is not writable." Also "Medium required for the compilation
CD-R/RW. Medium in the recorder CD-RW (or CDR, I have tried both
types. Can someone please help me get this software to work?

Alternatively, should I go with another software? Thanks for any
replys.

OS is Aptiva 2137-E24 with Windows 95.

The Nero 5.5 that came with my burner works just fine. I do, however,
have Win98 on my Aptiva. I'm not sure what the requirements for 5.5 are
though. Have you tried uninstalling and installing Nero? It may be worth
a shot.

Nero 5.5.8 works fine here.
Things to try -

In nero under 'recorder' try 'choose recorder'.
Could also check neros site to make sure your burner is supported.

Try the button 'opens the cd-copy dialog'.
Click the 'wizard' button.
CD -Next.
Compile a new cd - Next.
Data cd - Next.
Create a new data cd - Next.
Then finish.
Here, choose some files to burn in the file broswer.
Drag and drop them from the right pane to the second one from the left.
Click the 'opens the write cd dialog'.
And assuming your burner is supported and a blank CD-R is in your drive, it
should work.

Trying other software is rarely a bad idea.
I use quite a few burning apps.
One I would highly recomend in burnquick, which isvery simple and easy to use
and basically turns your cd into a giant floppy drive.
Check here http://www.burnquick.com/cd-burners.asp and see if your burner is
supporter.
If so download the evaluation and see if you like it.
Its only about $15 or so if you decide to keep it.

Run Nero CD Speed and see if you can burn
the test CD (best to try on a RW first).

Extra ... Advanced DAE Quality Test ...
Create Test CD

CD Speed comes with Nero Burning ROM but
I'm not sure if it comes with Nero Express. If
you don't have it, you can get it at:
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html
It is freeware (550KB).

Buslink usually OEMs from another manufacturer.
Once you've fixed your problem, you may want to
find out what drive you actually have. I think AOpen
is one of the manufacturers. If you have JustLink
buffer underrun protection, it will be an AOpen drive.
