I have a Palm Tungsten E2 I would like to hotsync over dial up. I have
a IR modem I use with the Palm. When I attempt to hotsync my computer
answers and handshakes but never connects to desktop or hotsyncs. A
little research shows that my modem is associated with Comm port three
and my Palm desktop wants to connect via comm port 1. There is no
option to change the palm to another comm port. Comm port one in the
device manager is associated with the serial port. Can I just assign
the modem to comm port 1? I know it would conflict, but since I have
nothing attached serially will it matter? Or has someone found a way to
change the palm. Any help would be appreciated.

you should be able to switch the port in device manager without any
problem like you stated. the problem arises when two devices want
to use a port at the same time, which in your case, wouldnt happen.

I tried the solution above with no success. I dial up the computer, get
a "connected" messsage and then it times out. The message tells me it
could not make a connection between my palm and the desktop. I can
hotsync locally, so I know the palm is good and the hotsync manager is
installed correctly. Anyone have any suggestions for me. A review of
the Palm website was fruitless.
