Default Sending events to os 8.6 from X

Hello.
I have an applescript residing on a machine running 8.6 with program
linking turned on. Currently, from our machine running 9 I can run the
remote script with an applescript using the 'tell application "finder"
of machine "xyz" ' syntax.

When I convert the script to send the open request to os X it looks
like this:

tell application "Finder" of machine "eppc://192.168.x.x"
activate
select file "harddrive:myscript"
open selection
end tell

However this does not work in X. Can anyone shed light on how to get
OS X send open events or other means to the older operating system?
Thanks.

Try this, it might work. (chevrons are opt-backslash and
opt-shift-backslash)

tell application "Finder" of machine "eppc://192.168.x.x"
«event aevtodoc» file "harddrive:myscript"
end tell

I believe this is your problem. The ability to send and receive remote
apple events via TCP/IP was not added until Mac OS 9. You will need to
run your script under Mac OS 9, as this was the last version of the Mac
OS to support apple events over AppleTalk. --

That's problem because the software we are running is ancient and will
no run on anything newer than 8.6. Too bad.
