Default Using Vcool with coolbit on makes the Audigy 2 sound really crap

Hi,

My PC is as follow :
Abit KT7A (Chipset Via KT133A) with the latest Bios
Athlon XP2400+ @ 128*17 (2176MHz)
512 MB SDRam
Geforce 3 Ti500 with the latest drivers
Windows XP SP1
Via 4-in-1 drivers v4.37
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with the latest drivers

As the CPU can get rather hot (73C under intense load and the current
infernal heat plaguing Europe these days) I try to cool it down a bit.
I use Vcool which seems to work, lowering the CPU of several C when
idle or lightly loaded.
In order for the cooling to really work I have to turn on the "Cool
Bit" in VCool. Unfortunately doing so severely ruins my sound
experience as any attempt to play sounds via the Audigy 2 in this case
results in an awful noise in which I vaguely recognise what I try to
play.
As soon as I turn the "Cool bit" off everything goes back to normal.
But then the CPU temperature goes back up.

Get a better CPU cooler or an air conditioner for your computer room.
73C is asking for trouble.

Forget about VCool. Causes more problems than it's worth.

hi

try to use the pci options for vcool, "delay transaction", "halt detect" and
"cpu-pci write buffer".

If it can't work anyway (because of the coolbit problem) I am not
gonna keep it ...

Apart from that, after this post, I have lowered the VCore of the CPU
from 1.775V to 1.70V. I then performed some load tests and it went
fine. The temp seems to have dropped by 3C in average.

My cooler is an Arctic Cooling Silent Copper TC2, not a bad one I
think.
I have used the thermal paste provided with it though. It looked fine,
but perhaps it would work better with Arctic Silver II ? I am not sure
if all these different thermal pastes make any difference against each
others...
