Default Windows Explorer Will Not Retain View settings

Windows Explorer Will Not Retain View settings

I have a (previously stable) install of Windows 95 OSR2 that has
recently developed an annoying problem. When I open "Windows Explorer"
it will not "remember" changes I made to the display last time but
always reverts to the "old" view settings. The window size, left and
right pane size and right pane column size always revert to the old
settings when explorer is closed and reopened. "My Computer", "Control
Panel" and a desktop folder named "Utilities" have simular problems.
Other desktop folders are OK as well as other desktop system icons like
"Nework Neighborhood" and "RecycleBin".

What I've tried:

- Used the TweakUI "Rebuild Icons" and "Repair System Files"

- Reinstalled the video driver (Matrox Mystique PCI v4.11)

- Reran windows SETUP.EXE

- Searched through the registery for any settings that seem relevent.

All to no avail.

While this is not a fatal problem it IS annoying and I shure would like
to understand what is going on. Any suggestions or questions?

Did you try:
TweakUI, Explorer, Settings, check "Save windows settings"

Default Solution Found :-)

I've found a solution:-)).

From your previous post suggesting a setting in "Tweak-UI" I decided to
try to reset this setting by removing the check mark for "Save Explorer
Window Settings". Found out that this setting was not retained either so
I decided Tweak-UI was broken.

I then installed an older version (Nov 08, 1996) replacing the newer
(June 18, 2000) version and ALL WAS WELL. Then I reinstalled the new
version and all is still well.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to solve this very
annoying problem.

Interesting and good to know. I use the 11-8-96 here. Thanks for
the info.
