Causing Visual Studio to repaint

How do I get all of Visual Studio to repaint? I have a control that when
dragged around where the drag rectangle falls outside the border of the
winform leaves graphics artifacts outside the WinForm design surface. How
do I tell the whole designer area to repaint?
