Hi all,

I've been working with visual basic for several years, but all know is what
I thought myself and what I've learned here. I know details of some things,
but I'm a newbie with others. The letters API pass often in this newsgroup,
but there's no place where I can get description of what API stands for. Is
there someone who can give a short and simple answer what API stands for,
how and when you use it/them?

Windows API
The Windows API (Application Programming Interface) consists of the
functions, messages, data structures, data types, and statements you can
use in creating applications that run under Microsoft Windows. The parts
of the API you use most are code elements for calling API functions from
Windows. These include procedure declarations (for the Windows
functions), user-defined type definitions (for data structures passed to
those functions), and constant declarations (for values passed to and
