Default auto-disconnect dial-in

Hi,
I've got a remote access server. I've said it to cut the connexion when
there is no activity during 2 minutes (I..E. to avoid users that forgot
their connexion)
It was working perfectly with Windows 95/98 (we use the wan with network

mapped letters)
But we have change our laptops. Now they are installed with windows
2000.
The problem is that windows 2000 is always using the wan, so the link is

never cut (their isn't 2 min without trafic)
The real problem is that sometimes my users are still connected after a
night.
Is anyone have an idea?
thanks,
Pierre DESCAMPS

Hi Pierre,

what WAN connection do you use?
There must be an option like
( ) "fast LogIn"
Networkdrives will be connected upon request
(o) "LogIn and connect"
Networkdrives will be connected upon LogIn

You should find it at the properties page of the "Client for Windows
Networks" from your network settings.
Set this to "fast LogIn". That should solve the problem.
If it doesn't help, return here and I'll try to provide a batch file
using the "net use" and "net use /delete" command. Maybe you know how
to write it yourself, though.

André

Hi,
Thank for your help.
I think that "fast connect" was in Win98, I haven't seen it on Win2k
Maybe disconnect letters could be an Idea to decrease link usage, but the
problem is the same in that case : users must disconnect manualy, and they
can forgot it....

Hi Pierre,

fortunately I found an article at the microsoft knowledgebase.
The best thing is: I found one in french
Allow me a final joke:
Your WAN-connection would have been disconnected after 8171 years, but
that wasn't tested by microsoft :-p
Just look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;FR;138365

I hope that helps and if so I'm glad I could be of help.

regards
André
