"They do not want to die, they want to live. A hunger strike is
something you do when you have no other option. Believe me, we had
no other option," he said. "If the world didn't know that we were alive
before, they can at least know there are some tragic events on Nauru
after the asylum seekers' deaths."
But Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone said yesterday:
"The hunger strikers can choose to eat at any time. They can
also return to their country of origin at any time.
AUSTRALIAN PIE
A long.long time ago I can still remember how that FAIRGO used to make me smile
and I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people stay and maybe
they'd be happy for a while but Vanstone made me shiver with every paper
deliver'd, bad news on the doorstep, they couldn't take one more step, I can't
remember who then cried when I read about the starving guys but something
touched me deep inside, the day the FAIRGO DIED So..
Chorus:
Bye bye Miss Australian Pie drove my Holden to the pity but the pity was dry and
them good ol' mates were drinking champagne and dry singing that will be the day
they die, that will be the day they die.
