Default Has anyone not from Austria seen this film? (control bit life)

Malcolm
(1986)

CAST
Colin Friels .... Malcolm Hughes
Lindy Davies .... Judith
John Hargreaves (I) .... Frank Baker
Charles 'Bud' Tingwell .... Tramways supervisor

CREW
Director .... Nadia Tass

The movie starts off with Malcolm taking his own tram that
he built in secret for a spin around Melbourne's streets,
which gets him fired as he was not allowed to do that.

He then sends his remote control car to the Milk Bar to get
milk and is told that he doesn't have enough money to pay his
account. The milk bar lady feels sorry for him and tells
him he should get some boarders in.

One of the people who moves (Frank) in turns out to be a bit dodgy,
and starts to lead Malcolm into a life of crime, but not in the
way you would expect...

Classic scenes:

- Malcolm riding his home made tram at the start
- "Did they put your Dad's head back on for the funeral Frank?"
- Bank holdup with a remote control car
- "phone left off the hook" music
- Ned Kelly in a wheelchair

Thanks.

I yes, I forgot the "one car that splits into two" which was an ill-fated
attempt at a "getaway car" by Malcolm for Frank.

Thanks.

Yep. It's really popular with the tram gunzels.

If you liked Malcolm, you might like Nadia Tass' next film Rikky and
Pete (1988). It has a similar number of quirky inventions.

Cheers

David Bromage skribis,

So, ARKd00ds, should I put either or both of these films on my
`holiday film catchup' list? I need you to help me decide how to
waste my precious time.

Ricky and Pete seemed to have disappointing Rocky XVIII flavour to me.
Revved up but lacking charm. Malcolm was a gem. That tram sequence
was inspired. I also like the shovel scene but that might be just me.

Death in Brunswick is another great old quirky Melbournite film well
worth looking up.

I would also recommend "The Big Steal" with Ben Mendelson (the poor man's
Russel Crowe) as it has the Nissan Cedric in it.

You should be able to find a lot of these in the video store bargain bin
as they are selling them to make way for more DVDs.

Thanks.

You can come and watch them at my lovely flat that smells like LARD on my
SOOPER High Tech Rank Arena TV that makes everything look yellow.

Thanks.

Maybe you should wash the lard off the screen.

If this were a nice restaurant, I would, of course, be wearing
clothing appropriate to the occasion and my most fashionable tin foil

Tim Chmielewski (aka Bruce) was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea:

Yay! Rank Arena's. Most reliable TV EVAR. Is it 25 years old yet?

Does it emit lots of ozone? (I stopped mine emitting ozone by
removing some of the protection spark-gaps and dusting off the 20
years of dust from the tube)
