Medicine Cards (totem beliefs time spirituality)
As some of you may remember, I became a ***-agenarian on 4 October. One of my
AA friends who is into Indian spirituality gave me a copy of the book MEDICINE
cards by Sams and Carson. I have been reading it all month, and decided that
their is no conflict between to book and my current set of beliefs and
practices. Not that I am all that dogmatic. At best I an often called an
Eclectic Pagan, at worst an Agnostic Pagan, and my own preferred term is
Unitarian Universalist Pagan. (I am indeed a card carrying member of CUUPS).
As usual, I came home from work shortly after midnight, and this seemed to me
an apporopiate time to start the use of the book. Samhain and all that. I was
to find out who are my nine totem animals, using the procedures on page 18. The
book warned me that "These selections may surprise you, but they will be
correct." That comment about some of the selections being a surprise was an
understatement. Here are my nine totem animals:
East - Snake - Transmutation
South - Turtle - Mother Earth
West - Mouse - Scrutiny
North - Badger - Aggressiveness
Above - Coyote - Trickster
Below - Black Panther - Embracing The Unknown
Within - Dolphin - Manna
Left - Owl - Deception
Right - Bat - Rebirth
I'm going to have to think about this awhile.
