Default Alexander Hamilton Defends the Electoral College in Federalist No. 68 (time process)

This would not have happened. The FL legislature was already on track to
certify the Republican slate of electors, before a recount could have been
completed (remember, the legislature was under time pressure to certify by a
given date or risk having FL's electoral vote not count at all). Had there
been a full recount, there would have been a challenge to the Republican
slate from the Democrats who won the recount, the US House of Reps would
have rejected the Democratic slate (on purely political grounds) in favor of
the Republican one, and Bush would still have won. That would have been
preferable to the Supreme Court's short-circuiting the process as they did.

[Note, I didn't vote for Bush and I didn't vote for Gore. I have no dog in
this fight.]

Bill is 100% correct on this one. The election was not carried out
according to the federal and state constitutions. Bill is also
100% correct when he says that if they had carried out the election
according to the federal and state constitutions, Bush would have won.

I also didn't vote for Bush or Gore. I voted for Harry Browne.

Yep. Particularly as before deciding on the merits they first ordered
a restraining order to halt all the recount efforts.
