Default Dead Sea Scrolls (church atheist script convert discussion)

Interesting...

I found the following link which was also interesting to me:

http://www.ibiblio.org/expo/deadsea.scrolls.exhibit/Library/warrule.html

"This six-line fragment, commonly referred to as the "Pierced Messiah"
text, is written in a Herodian script of the first half of the first
century C.E. and refers to a Messiah from the Branch of David, to a
judgement, and to a killing."

"James D. Tabor A Pierced or Piercing Messiah? -- The Verdict is Still
Out Biblical Archaeology Review 18 (November - December 1992) Unbound
serial. Hebraic Section, African and Middle Eastern Division, Library
of Congress."

Even though the texts in the "War Rule" don't mention Jesus by name,
there are people who swear that it's talking about Jesus. They
started arguing about what pierced meant, just like they argued and
continue to argue about what "rock" means with regards to who was the
actual founder of the church of Jesus.

When I started the current email discussion with the fellow I
mentioned, it was because he said that he wanted to interview a
"humorous atheist" for a film he's shooting.

Here are his exact words from the initial email:

I said "sure" and from there we've had a few conversations in email,
but it seems that he might've been lying about actually shooting some
film to me. I told him it looked like he was just trying for a chance
to preach to me or convert me to Christianity.

Here's the next to last paragraph from his last email to me:

The final paragraph was all in caps!

IF JESUS WAS NOT THE SON OF GOD, YOU AND I WOULD NOT BE HAVING
THIS CONVERSATION. WE WOULD NOT KNOW WHO HE WAS. HE WOULD
HAVE DISAPPEARED LONG AGO. WHO WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY PERPETUATED
THE MEMORY OF THE CHARACTER THAT YOU DESCRIBE?

Sad or funny or what?

Default Dead Sea Scrolls (points atheist creation cross)

Yes, and people also swear that the verse in Isaiah about Emmanuel
refers to Jesus, too. There are even some people who think that the
Great Pyramid points at the cross at the center of creation.

I'm sure that his "film" will be a well-balanced presentation.

Sad, no funny, no sad. Did you mention that Hercules is remembered
at least as long as Jesus?

Maybe he's getting confused with the Nag Hammadi Library which was
found in Egypt a couple of years before the Dead Sea scrolls. These do
refer to Jesus, but of course were written down several centuries
later than the Dead Sea scrolls.

What's happened to georgann, anyway? Haven't seen any posts from her lately.

I'm pretty sure he was lying about some actual film, but I could be wrong about that.

I didn't mention Hercules yet. If he decides to respond, I'll bring
him up.

If I had to guess, I'd bet he's thinking of some text that
can only be described as too darn close to the famous
"Sermon on the mount" to call it a coincidence.

To the believers it's absolute proof-positive that the
Essenes were familiar with Jesus and his teaching,
even going so far as to make their own record of them.

Depends. Heck, even some Greek literature was
found amongst the "Dead Sea Scrolls."

Don't think that the only scrolls found were found at
Qumran. There are other locations, and there's nothing
unusual about even scholars lumping these scrolls
together as the "Dead Sea Scrolls."

"Biblical Archaeology Review" is, as the name indicates,
a heavily biased publication.

I really don't know. She's probably working on her opus, or she
became tired of playing with us.

Default Dead Sea Scrolls (way)

I've heard some Christians claim that Jesus was a vegetarian
because apparently the Essenes were vegetarians, according to
fragments of some sort, if you wanna interpret those fragments
that way.

Default Dead Sea Scrolls (adam time)

The Apocalypse of Adam is interesting:

From:
http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/adam.html

"Since that time, we learned about dead things, like men. Then we
recognized the God who had created us. For we were not strangers to
his powers. And we served him in fear and slavery."
