I thought this was a group dealing with the problems of the railways. Can
someone explain why there should be postings on philosophical religious
questions or have I missed some subtle point and the discussion is really
about gauge corner cracking?

those people recognised as having interest in railways and those people
who are othewise known as " Godbotherers".
I have never been able to make this connection myself.
