UN envoy: "Israel" ruined Palestinian economy
Jul 19, 2003, 13:50
Geneva - The UN special envoy on the right of sustenance, Jean
Ziegler, yesterday declared that the "Israeli" occupation forces were
seriously and repeatedly violating that right in the West Bank and
Ziegler told a press conference after returning from a visit to the
occupied Palestinian lands that the "Israeli" army measures had forced
Palestinians to beg for food.
The UN envoy deplored the disastrous humanitarian conditions
experienced by 3.5 million Palestinians as a result of their economy's
collapse due to the "Israeli" siege of Palestinian lands.
He said that "Israel" was thus violating the fourth Geneva Convention
on duties of occupation forces towards civilians.
Ziegler, who was deputized by the UN human rights commission, is
preparing a report on his mission to be tabled with the UN Secretary
General Kofi Anan early next September then with the UN General
Assembly in New York.
The report included a number of recommendations, which the UN envoy
refused to divulge.
Ziegler tabled figures released by the World Bank indicating that 56%
of Palestinian families were eating one meal only each day. They were
forced to beg, he elaborated.
The UN envoy further revealed that 9.3% of Palestinian children less
than five years old were suffering from severe malnutrition that could
lead to permanent side effects.
He attributed reasons of such a humanitarian tragedy to the Zionist

"Israel" ruined Palestinian economy (metaphysical target way don)
Hey Abu Alfalfa, you seem to be somehow omitting to mention the slight
small factor that a very large number of Palestinians (a majority in
some polls) perversely glorify and enthusiastically celebrate vile
despicable loathesome suicide terrorism crimes which target civilians!
If a majority of Palestinians had ever honestly condemned terrorism
(i.e. had not just recognized it to be "inexpedient" under some
particular conjunction of cir***stances, but had ever honestly felt in
their hearts that terrorism is morally wrong, and hadn't been afraid
to say so out loud), then the course of Middle East events would have
been rather different, and they wouldn't be begging for food now.
Even right now, they prefer maintaining their absolutist maximalist
political claims in all their metaphysical extremist purity to getting
any concrete immediate gains for themselves through pragmatic
negotiatiing and practical compromises. As long as they feel that
way, they're effectively inflicting their situation onto themselves,
so I hope they find their absolutist maximalist political principles
to be nourishing!
Meanwhile, I'd really like to know why why you put the name Israel in
quotes, but don't put the name Palestine in quotes -- given that the
Arabic word _'Israa'iil_ occurs a number of times in the Qur'an, while
the word _Filastiin_ doesn't even occur once in the Qur'an, and you
consider yourself to be a good Muslim!
