I received this:
To: tilman@berlin.snafu.de Subject: Scientology in a video game I thought you might like to know that there was a video game that dealt with an organization similar to scientology. The game is ultima 7, the black gate, and in it there is an organization called "The Fellowship" which is based on the Time article about scientology. In summary, this organization is helping an evil creature called the guardian get access to the world of britannia (the world in which ultima is set) by creating a black gate, similar to an artificial wormhole. In the game, the fellowship works very similar to scientology, and there is even a fake personality test with trick questions. Of course, in the end the gate is destroyed, the fellowship is revealed to be a cult, and the world is saved. I thought you might find it interesting that the bad guy in ultima 7 worked through an organization based on scientology. To: tilman@berlin.snafu.de Subject: Re: Re: Scientology in a video game Go ahead. You can find more information on various newsgroups (there are a few groups for the ultima series). Note that ultima 7 requires an accurate PC emulator (virtual pc or bochs), or the exult engine to run on modern computers (it uses some wierd 32 bit real mode trick which will not work in anything except pure DOS without emm386/qemm loaded). An interview with Garriot (the writer of the ultima series) can be found in the official ultima IX strategy guide where he mentions using the time magazine article on scientology to create the idea of the fellowship. -- Tilman Hausherr [KoX, SP5.55] Entheta * Enturbulation * Entertainment tilman@berlin.snafu.de http://www.xenu.de Rule, Lord Xenu Lord Xenu rules the waves Knights of Xenu never shall be slaves Find broken links on your web site: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html The Xenu bookstore: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/bookstore.html |
