The Four Dictums for Nikken Shoshu (for Craig) )
Subject: Funny From: sensei@daisaku-ikeda.com (Daisaku Ikeda) [Really Craig Bratcher] Date: 12/27/2002 6:31 AM Pacific Standard Time Message-id: <3e0c63c4.648713@news.dfncis.de> Isn't it funny that Flavio picked one day to stop spamming-Christmas. Must have been busy caroling at SGI HQ [Spurious garbage deleted...] ================================================== == Actually was having a little trouble with my connection. Fear not, I'll not leave you in your incessant sufferings hell (from Nembutsu, or NemNikken, or whatever of the four dictums Buddhism you Nichiren Shoshu folks are focusing on this week). The Four Dictums for Nikken Shoshu believers: 1. "NemNikken will lead to the hell of incessant suffering": worship of the Buddha outside you (Nikken), in a heaven somewhere else (Taisekiji) leads to incessantly, life after life, deferring enlightenment to the next life, in an endless loop. 2. "NikkenZen is the teaching of devils": Emptiness, the Void at the heart of life (what is left after Nikken empties your life of hope of being equal to Nichiren and attaining Nichiren's life condition). 3. "NikkenShingon will ruin the nation": Pointless ritual and magic (like the magical process of going on Tozan, with the BIG MOMENT at the Temple, which leaves your own life as a trivial or lesser moment). 4. "NikkenRitsu is traitorous": Pointless discipline masking hedonism (the hierarchy of the priesthood, their Geishas, their family, and their pets over the Hokkeko, lesser laity and a disappointed humanity). Beware these four !!! Nichiren Daishonin writes (Encouragement to a Sick Person, WND p. 78): "During the Former and Middle Days of the Law, the five impurities began to appear, and in the Latter Day, they are rampant. They give rise to the great waves of a gale, which not only beat against the shore, but strike each other. The impurity of thought has been such that, as the Former and Middle Days of the Law gradually passed, people transmitted insignificant erroneous teachings while destroying the unfathomable correct teaching. It therefore appears that more people have fallen into the evil paths because of errors with respect to Buddhism than because of secular misdeeds." 26th High Priest Nichikan was most strict about the 4 dictums, due to his experience with dealing with difficult cir***stances brought on by his faithless predecessors. In his writing, "On Practicing the Buddha's Teachings", he states: "If we do not ponder the four dictums and if we ignore propagation, our hearts will become accomplices in slandering the Law. If we do not accomplish propagation with our voices, they will become accomplices in the slander of the Law. If we do not face the object of devotion with prayer beads in our hands, our bodies will become accomplices in the slander of the Law. Therefore, those who ponder the object of devotion of the essential teaching of the Lotus Sutra face the object of devotion of the 'Life Span' chapter of the essential teaching and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo of the actual three thousand realms in a single moment of life --- that is, the Buddhism of sowing contained in the 'Life Span' chapter of the essential teaching of the Lotus Sutra --- shall be the ones propagating the Law through the three kinds of karma --- thoughts, words and deeds." (The Collection of High Priest Nichikan's Commentaries, p. 767) -Chas. ________________________________________ From "The Entity of the Mystic Law", Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, p. 418: The Complete and Final Teaching on Perfect Enlightenment Sutra declares, "The beginningless illusions and ignorance that beset all living beings are all produced by the perfectly enlightened mind of the Thus Come Ones." |
