Visiting Bruderhof Communities in the USA - New Meadow Run

Visting New Meadow Run Bruderhof
In 1957, the Bruderhof needed to establish a new community in the United
States to accommodate members moving from Bruderhof communities in the
backwoods of Paraguay, South America, where the Bruderhof had been eking
out a meager existence for 15 years since fleeing Europe during World War
II. On June 2, 1957 the papers for the purchase of Gorley's Lake Hotel
were signed. This property was located in the wooded foothills of
Chestnut Ridge in southwestern Pennsylvania, a lakefront hotel along US
Route 40 (known as the "National Pike") near Fort Necessity National
Battlefield. July 20 marked the establishment of Oak Lake Bruderhof.

The New Meadow Run Bruderhof, formerly named Oak Lake Bruderhof, has been
in existence since July 1957. It is a sister community to the Spring
Valley Bruderhof, founded in 1990 and also located in Farmington,
Pennsylvania.

Big and Small Obstacles to a United Community by Eberhard Arnold
If everybody wants to be in the right, or even if only one person wants
to be in the right, it is impossible to live in community. That is
egotism or self-love. Touchiness, like opinionatedness, is another form
of self-love.

Every Child a Teacher by Johann Christoph Arnold
Taking a hard look at a culture hostile to children, Johann Christoph
Arnold encourages every parent and educator to defend the preciousness of
childhood and put children first.

Visiting Bruderhof USA - Get Busy and Wait by Christoph Friedrich
Blumhardt
There is much to be done. All around you there are lives entrusted to
your care, people with whom you have been led together. They are perhaps
your own family or your next door neighbor. We need to see even nations
as "households of God" and love them as the Father in heaven loves them.

Visiting Bruderhof USA - The Crowd by Soren Kierkegaard
If you want to be loathsome to God, just run with the herd. That's
Kierkegaard's take on our crowd mentality, whereby we surrender our
conscience and convictions. To form a crowd, he says, is to kill our
ideals - and Christ.
