Why do people congregate and stick around on Buddhist usenet?

I'm thinking of background reasons, like

"Always enjoyed wrangling politics and philosophy."

"Don't have time to find like-minded souls to hang out with IRL, so kill
time here."

"Addicted to my alter ego playing make-pretend super genius."

"Finally a captive audience that's just as bad off as I."

I used to have intelligent friends to talk to.
But I used to say,"Go away now. I'm tired of talking to you."
So they did.

Usenet is handier. Besides, here you can post in the ****.
And you don't have to share your chips and whisky.
(Don't ya hate when that happens?)
