The Buddhism that can be found on a newsgroup... (bit life)

Tell you a secret: Neither is the Buddhism found in anything else
labelled "Buddhist".
You won't find the One True Buddhism anywhere.
All you'll find by looking for that is a huge mess of conflicting
opinions about what Buddhism should or shouldn't be.
And the Buddha didn't teach Buddhism - instead, his first, basic
teaching was for people to be generous. Not just with material goods:
generosity develops into a good-natured, benevolent attitude, even
towards people who adhere to things other than "true Buddhism", and
even towards oneself! It's a basic exercise in relaxing, removing
borderlines and other limits and obstacles, in opening up, unfolding
from one's clenched-up position, in loosening one's grip on things a
little bit, so one actually notices how hard one holds on.
Once generosity had become ingrained in his students, he'd go on to
teach about suffering, and its end.
