Default Witch?? (year)

MM,
I have been practicing Wicca for about a year, and I have a question for
those who have practiced longer and have the knowledge.
I practice Wicca and Witchcraft. I understand some Wiccans do not.
My question, most of what I Have read says that "Witch" refers to a
female. Then what do you call a male witch??/ Warlock?? is this
appropriate??
Jon

AFAIK it is not. "Warlock" is a term for "oath Breaker" in scotland.

Witch refers to both male and female. A warlock is an oathbreaker.

That's only half the truth of the present common usage.

No. That's a mistake. A male witch is a *witch* (or maybe a Wiccan) }

Default Witch?? (sense theory warlock definition)

Hi Jon,

'Warlock' is an old Scots dialect term for male witch or sorcerer, which is
still the standard dictionary definition for the term, although it is not
generally used by modern Wiccans or witches, 'witch' being used for both
***es, especially when used in the religious sense.

The 'standard' etymological derivation for 'warlock' is from the Old
English word 'waerloga', literally agreement-breaker or treaty-breaker, but
with the broader meaning of perjurer, scoundrel, etc., however, there is a
more recent theory which suggests a derivation from the Old Norse
'varðlokkur' meaning enchanter or conjuror (of spirits).

(See for example http://www.boudicca.de/warlock-e.htm)

Default Witch?? (wicca religion)

In my view unless one is speaking/typing Norweigen the second
deffinition should not apply.

Default Witch?? (way)

Or does it really matter any more.... next we'll be starting on other
groups - Doctor, Buddhist, lollipop lady, *** (oh, we started the fag
one already... *sigh* There is an explanation for it but it's hardly
worth the bother!)

Actually, I'm not going to call myself a witch anymore - I'm a....
erm.... wutch! That way no one can tell me that I can't call myself
that!

;P

Well, at the end of the day, I'm ME and you're YOU. All these labels (pagan,
witch, xian etc.) that we try to fit ourselves into never seem to fit anyway
so why do we even bother?
