Default Got my first mail-order cricket order today. (pogona)

The local petshop here doesn't carry the 1-week crickets, so I ordered
them through BCR. Gary was obviously very hungry. I don't think he
was happy with the bigger crickets I was giving him at all! I put
about 25 of the tiny crickets in his tank and he just went nuts after
them.

So ... questions. The crickets come in a very well sealed brown box.
I had a hard time getting the box open and getting the bugs out without
losing a few in my house .... somewhere (eek!) Plus, getting ALL of
them out was difficult. They are so small and jump quite high!

The ones I put in his tank seemed to be very determined to crawl up the
tank in the corner, and looked to be very close to successful. Is
there anything I can use so they can't get out?

How long will Gary need such tiny crickets. I found it hard to handle
them as they were SO very active.

When my criks (1000 ct.) arrive I go to the bathtub and shut the door. I have a deep clear container I dump them into. Then I can try to sort out the trash and place them in their new home. Afterwards the tub gets a good cleaning. This has helped me alot. The container they stay in has a screen top.

I do the same thing - opening them in the bathroom with the door shut. I found out if you cut the box, but don't open it, then smack it hard on the ground, the crickets usually go to the bottom (for a little while anyway). Then I try to open the box upside down deep in the container to keep them from jumping around. A few good smacks usually gets most of them out.

But for over active crickets, I sometimes put them in a baggie then pop them in the fridge for a few seconds. It usually calms them down enough to feed my dragon.

A great way to keep crickets from climbing out of platic tubs (IN ADDITION TO A LID) is to run a strip of clear carton sealing tape around the top couple inches of the tub's interior. They can't climb it and fall right back into the tub.
