Hello Charlie

Are you absolutely sure that your "guy" is not a girl? It's egg laying season and that's exactly the behavior that they display when they are ready to lay. A dragon can lay eggs even tho she is a "virgin". Many dragon owner are *sure* they have boys until they find eggs in the tank.

I would make a bucked of moist (not wet) dirt/sand and place a basking lamp on it. Put your beardie in it and see what happens. I sometimes dig a little with my fingers to "show the way".

I'm actually having the same problem with him opening his mouth, but
he's also been digging and scratching at his glass a lot lately which
is abnormal for him. Any ideas?
Charlie

Gapping to cool off as they are too lazy to move is normal, but they can also gap when they have parasites or after eating as their tummies are upset. The thrid reason is cause they can and they know it gets them attention.

Digging/scratching... take them out of the enclouse and let them run around a bit, if they stick their nose in a corner and want to go to sleep, they just are bored and its springtime almost, they know if and get restless in their enslosures. THis is the time of year I have to pay mnore attention to the dragons that usual and some of them can not get enough attention

Not absolutely sure (just thought). S/he is an only dragon, raised
since 2 inches and now 1.5 feet. Also, is it normal for there to be
orange color around the mouth/beard? Also, hasn't shed in a couple
months.

Orange color should be normal, especially if the scales look healthy. This is just your beardie's coloration. As for sheds, they slow down alot after most of the growth is over, and will shed bit by bit in what will seem to you like random times.

Here is a site that shows pictures on sexing dragons:
