anyone care to shed any light on the idea that u cannot keep a
chameleon in an all glass tank?? the tank i got is 36 inches long 12
wide and 15 tall. surely if i was to wire mesh the whole top it would
be okay??? all the rep shops keep theres in glass tanks. cheers

Seems like there may be a number of issues, but one that indicates that
glass with a mesh top is not a good idea:

"I just got a chameleon a week ago he rubed his eye on the side of the
glass tank and now does not open the one eye anymore, is there anything I
can do for it."

The replies seemed pretty clear about the no glass rule. Seems that
having visible reflections is also an issue.

I am BY NO MEANS a chameleon expert. And if I am wrong on anything
please correct me! When you see chameleons at the pet store 90% of
the time they are not in the right conditions anyway. (That goes with
other reptiles also). Chameleons NEED ventalation and a screen topped
aquarium can't give that. They also need misting systems, drip
systems, special lighting, humidity is very important, ect, ect. All I
can say is do your reasearch very hard before getting one of these
beauties. Check out kingsnake.com forum section they have a section on
chameleons and people who have had them for years. And here's a web
