At this rate I'm going to have a house full of critters missing limbs!
Sadly, the new Stumpy can't regrow his.

So, today at the warehouse I walked into the office and my boss's wife
was working with a baby chameleon. The poor little guy had just hatched
today and couldn't get all the way out of his egg. She carefully cut
the egg apart and found that his leg was all messed up and was tangled
up in the rest of the egg contents. Apparently as he developed,
something wrapped around one of his hind legs, so when he was born he
had some dead flesh on the calf and a completely exposed thigh bone.

Otherwise, he seems healthy and active, so we carefully removed the dead
leg and applied Betadine. He's spending a few days with the other new
babies (we're up to our ears in them!), then he'll be coming home with
me. I think he'll do well if he doesn't have to compete for food.
Chameleons have *very* strong legs and I think he'll be alright with
three. I'll just have to work out how I'll set up his cage. He doesn't
need a lot of space now, since he's just two inches long.

I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Jennifer

Jenn's House of Handicapped Herps and Animal Amputees.

Perhaps you could start a telethon?

Good on you for bringing him in, and good luck!

lol Maybe I should make a sign and hang it over the door. :-P

I checked on him today, he was moving around the cage with the other
babies, stopped to vigorously rub his nose on a branch. I think he'll
do alright.

lol

Hmmm, I might just do that. It's going to get confusing with multiple
animals all named the same thing.

You actually, truly, made me LOL. I had this picture of walking into your
Zoo of crippled critters, shouting TTTIIIMMMMMEEEEEEE, and having them all
answer.

Awww, poor little guy! You're so sweet to take him in, I can't wait to see
pictures! I bet he'll do just fine, I watch my cham climb around only using
2 legs sometimes, lol. Just out of curiosity, what kind of chameleon is he?
