Fat Tailed Gecko Won't Eat

My son received a fat tailed gecko for his birthday about 4 weeks ago. Since then the gecko has not appeared to eat anything. We have tried feeding it mealworms and then crickets to no avail. We have a 30 gallon tank with a heat pad on the side and a basking light which are both on most of the time. Any ideas as to why it is not eating?
