Default Stupid Question (iguana)

Do reptiles "pee"? I have been keeping reptiles now for about three years
but never handled any until I got my baby iguana. I have been picking him up
several times a day, because I dont want a huge ig that wont let me near it,
and yesterday he peed on me and then pooped. My husband (who does not like
the ig) said that I must have done something to him that he didn't like and
that I should leave him alone. Does that indicate dislike or discomfort or did
he just do it naturally? (see I told you that it is a dumb question) Thanks.

ANN

6 under 8?... kids?... Wow.

Well just like kids the ig is a baby and will poop pee
acordingly.

Adult igs are much more predictable and for the most
part let you know their intentions in you know what to
look for.

Also for the record defecation in igs and several
other reptiles is always inclusive of both movements
at the same time. The party pack.

Default Stupid Question

Ig eliminations have 3 parts, 4 parts sometimes for males:

1) urine which usually comes first,
2) followed by white creamy liquid urates (if they become thick or
yellow that is a sign of dehydration), and
3) fecal matter, usually dark greenish brown depending upon diet.
This too should be loose if properly hydrated. "Terds" are a sign of
dehydration.

4) Males sometimes also give you a seminal plug.

Igs often develop a routine for elimination, i.e., in the morning, in
their bath (especially if it is the same time every day). They can
change their elimination patterns for different reasons:

1) Entering puberty
2) Mating season

Both of these have to do with marking territory: for males as a
warning to other males, and being found for females. Igs seem to sense
the gender of people, which provokes elimination during these times.
A maturing ig might also have a need to express dominion over you. In
the wild, the dominant ig climbs to the top of the tree and eliminates
on the igs below.

Default Stupid Question

Hi Ann
Well have had that happen to me with my one ig. So don't feel bad and don't think you did anything. You may of picked them up and put little pressure that caused it But Igs can get back at you, Had one that was not happy with me one day, feed them late.. And when I was not around He climbed up on my bed and left me and nice present right where he knew I would sleep on the bed. At least I saw it .
