Default Exercising Your Uro

Hi everyone. We're new to the group and this is our first post. To give you a quick background... We have a juvenile Ornate Uro who is well cared for. He has a very varied diet, large tank, and correct lighting and temperatures. We take better care of our animals then we do of ourselves.

Our Uro is very active and loves to be taken out of his tank and run around. We take him out daily and let him run around in a large bathroom. However he seems to be getting bored and wants to explore more options. We have cats and dogs as well so we have to be careful. So here's a strange question....Has anyone ever tried putting their uro in an extra large clear hamster ball and letting them run around? I don't know if it is safe (ie. small holes for his fingers to get caught in) or if he would like it. Or if anyone has other suggestions on allowing their uro to get exercise without being bored, getting hurt, or bothered by other animals.

Thanks a lot and we've already learned a lot from this group!!

This is not what you want to hear , but the safest and best exercise for your Uro is in a large cage . The largest you can afford . Uros do not like change and get stressed out easily . Even thou yours seems to like to get out and run around , hes better off in a big cage with lots of rocks , logs and hides to climb on .

I seem to recall someone trying this a few years ago (the hamster ball) an it didn't work well. The poor uro's nails got stuck in the holes and he generally didn't like the experience much. Perhaps someone has a copy of that post?

The best and safest place for excercise is a proper size cage or - if the
weather permits - an outdor enclosure.
