Default Handling a snake that may be preparing to lay eggs (bearded dragon water dragon ball python corn snake melleri)

Can anyone tell me if it's a good idea to handle a snake that may be
prepaing to lay eggs?

I was suppose to have two males, I had them sexed before I bought my
2nd snake and I was assured I had 2 males. But the other day I saw
what looked like they were getting really friendly, I was shocked. Is
it possible for 2 male snakes to act that way just becuase?
