Default New addition, CB Pyxie Frog

Went to Petco yesterday to get some supplies, and the reptile guy forced me
into buying a pyxicephalus before he would let me leave !
Damn you Petco, with your wide selection of well maintained livestock !
I was pleasantly surprised that they have re-done the reptile area with all
new cages, and I have to say they all looked excellent ! Other than a few
overcrowded terrariums, the animals and habitats all looked great.
So, now I have one more frog, Dixie the Pyxie.

Captive bred, are you sure? Can you tell me the city & state you
obtained the animal in... I'd like to know more about a petco that has
CB frogs for sale!

Actually Fr0glet, I was guesing on the CB part. You think I'm wrong ? I say
CB because it looks like maybe a week since it absorbed its tail. His butt
is still pointy. I could be wrong, they never mentioned CB, but it does look
recently transformed. I figured if it was an import it would be fully
formed by the time it made it through shipping ???
Maybe I'm wrong (doh!)
The store was in Richardson Texas.
High points for the great conditions in their terrariums.

Ryan,

Do you know WHAT "Pixie" frog you purchased? Many people are not aware that
there are actually two frogs that are sold in the pet trade that go by the
name "Pixie Frog"; both deriving their moniker "Pixie" from their Latin name
Pyxicephalus.

One is the giant that most people think of Pyxicephalus adsperus, and the
other is a dwarf version, Pyxicephalus edulis. If what you purchased is a
CB, then what you have is more than likely the dwarf version.

I believe I have an edulis. Have you ever seen an adspersus with a green
stripe between the eyes ? Unless juveniles of both have that stripe, then I
think its an edulis. I would like to get an adspersus as well. I like the
way their skin and mouth looks, its almost like they're rubber toys instead
of real frogs.

Yes....both the P. adspersus and P. edulis look identical as babies; even
the same approximate size. It isn't until close to the 7th month or so after
absorbing the tail does the size difference become apparent.

Interesting . I thought that the giants lacked the green stripe as
juveniles. Do you know of any ways to tell juveniles apart ? Or is it going
to be a potluck ?
Either way I'm happy, but it would be nice to know if there are any
differences.
