Default raising tank humidity (snake)

A friend who works at an aquarium just suggested putting an air stone in
the snake's water bowl.

Putting aside wondering what the snake would make of it, do you think
this is workable?

I'm asking for reason of finding out whether this would work. I do
know the more traditionally effective methods, of course.

I've used one before but it didn't really help my bps cage...though that was
probably attributed by the wire getting crunched up by the cage top coming
on top of it...

I doubt it would do much. Either use a moist hide or a tank humidifier. A
tank humidifier, and yes I just came up with the name, would be on the same
priciple as the moist hide. Get a rather flat plastic box. Drill a lot of
small holes in the lid, like a pepper shaker. Place over your under tank
heater. As the water is heated it should exhaust water vapor out of the
holes causing the tanks humidity to increase. If you need extreme humidity,
you will need some sort of misting system.

On a correction note, Chad, the term "tank humidifier" is not something you
came up with. ; ) Just a friendly correction...

For that quick design I just came up with it is. I am well aware of that
there are a variety of forms of humidifiers that are sold as useable in a
vivarium, yet what I described for Barbara to build is something I just came
up with off the top of my head. Thus I did give it the term tank
humidifier.

Thanks, Chad, for going through the explanation. I'm grateful. I
know the 'traditional methods' thanks to this group, and my reading.

I was just wondering about the air stone in the water bowl idea because
this employee at the fish store who holds himself as a 'reptile expert'
was so adamant with me; I thought maybe it was one I had not heard
about.

He wasn't mentioning the traditional plastic 'air tubing' and air pump
that cause this to function in a fishtank. Just the airstone, he
said.

I think he had possibly missed his breakfast sugars and stood out in the
sun too long, this AM.

Isn't it easier to put the water bowl over the UTH? And is it good to have
an UTH working in the summer?

A little very prorous stone in basalt (?) with a little plastic tube that
goes inside. The other end of the tube is connected to a pump, that pumps
air in it. You put the stone in the water and the air comes out through all
its tiny holes, making bubbling noise on the surface of the water.
They're used to keep the water in movemet, to avoid or slow down the growing
of algae or bacterias. I think with an air stone you can change the water
less frequently.
