Default Royal Python help.

Right, its been a couple of weeks since my 2 royals were put into their new
vivs. They both have totally different characters, Green is always active,
nosey and doesn't mind being handled (although I have only done this 3
times) and Yellow is nervous, always hiding and seems to be very shy.
The main problem is that neither of them have eaten since they got here (big
surprise there ;-)) The chap I got them of gave me feeding records and
Yellow last ate on Jan 30th and Green on Feb 12th. I know this isn't a
particularly long time but he gave me the impression that they were easy
eaters and had never refused to eat while he had them. They have drunk
water a couple of times so I don't think they're unwell, they don't look or
behave like they are.
I know Royals are notoriously picky and get stressed easily so...
Should I offer food every week when I feed the other snakes or should I
leave them longer?
If I manage to get any poo should I have it checked by a vet to make sure
they are ok?
Thanks.

I would still try once a week. I don't think that's overly stressful.
I would also get in touch with the previous owner and find out
precisely how they were fed before. What time of day? What color
prey? What temp (pey)? Tongs or by hand? "I'm Alive" dance,
or just tossed in? Try to reproduce exactly what was going on
when they were feeding regularly.
In the meantime, start trying all the old tricks. If you've
been doing alot of the "I'm Alive" dance, try on the next
feeding to just put the F/T rodent in unobstrusively and
leave it overnight. Try feeding in the cage, out of the cage,
etc. I'm sure you know the list by now.

I think I just wanted a bit of reasurance thanks.
They were fed by just putting the mouse in the tub, they were previously
kept in plastic tubs (hence the names, the lids were green and yellow) I'll
just keep persevering.
Thanks.
Theres a couple of piccies of them here getting out of their old homes into
their new ones.

Python Woman is on a distinguished road
Default Re: Royal Python help.

Have you tried assist feeding where you gently coax the mouse into the pythons & try to lodge it ont the rear teeth. Failing that then why not rub the mouse up & down the side of the royal they tend to think theres something on their back & then assist feed. Its not unusual for a royal not to eat some go up to 3 years without food, but you dont want to go down that road as its difficult to get them to eat again. Best bet is try assist feeding then do this every 7 days, are they in shed if so then they wont eat, pythons are very shy & can panic, but treated with care they should start to trust you, dont feed them in their home take them out & feed them in a tub away from their home. Good luck
